Description
Abstract:Authenticity in tourism is adequately investigated during the past decades but souvenir authenticity still has huge potential in the research. Handmade mementos are seen as authentic based on objective authenticity. However, with the development of mass-production, manufactured souvenirs gradually become authentic from the view of tourists. To examine the authenticity evaluation of mass-produced souvenirs from tourists, the current study investigated blogs from travel posts through constructivist grounded theory. Besides, 15 questions were designed in the online questionnaire and answered by 163 respondents. Cross-analysis was applied to examine influencing factors from tourists’ perceptions in judging the authenticity of souvenirs, especially manufactured mementos. Furthermore, it is helpful for souvenir suppliers to upgrade the authenticity of products through the conclusions of the paper.
