The impact of Brexit on international companies' FDI the case of Diageo

| Kivonat: | After three years and seven months from 2016 referendum, United Kingdom finally have left the European Union. Brexit questioned future plans of a country itself, inflow and outflow foreign direct investment of the United Kingdom and international companies operating it. In this thesis we review the possible impact of Brexit to the foreign direct investment of multinational company specializing in production of premium alcohol drinks – Diageo. We go through the meaning of foreign direct investment background. Also, we draw a parallel between 2008 global financial crisis and Brexit, and observe how company act in such critical kind of circumstances. Interview session have been held with a company employee who is in the position of head of commercial finance and operating back in London headquarters, United Kingdom. The interview was semi-structured type. We investigate how Diageo acts in the market: some examples of investments of the company, acquisitions and factory closures. The thesis finds out that the Brexit can barely affect Diageo’s investment strategies and related projects. |
