| 520 | 3 | |a This research analyzes the importance of financial innovation for the global financial system. It is found out that financial innovations may have both positive and negative impacts on the financial system. On the one hand, the introduction of financial innovations contributes to the development of competition, the reduction of costs of financial organizations in the financial market, the growth of range and quality of financial services, and an increase in financial stability. On the other hand, financial innovations may cause vulnerability and institutional complexity in the financial market. Moreover, three main groups of financial innovations, namely institutional innovation, process innovations, and product innovations are analyzed. Institutional innovations refer to the case when new kinds of financial organizations come into existence and examples can be hedge funds and boutique investment banks. Process innovations can be regarded as new business processes such as e-commerce, and online banking. Product innovations refer to new financial products and services such as payment via QR codes, VR-mortgage services, biometric payment, and green bonds. | |
