Kivonat: | This research paper has the purpose of showing the effects of the 2015 refugee crisis on the development of policies and the economy of the EU and its Member States. It takes into consideration the approaches of three representative Member States (Greece, Germany, and Hungary) throughout the crisis in order to evaluate the real effects of the crisis. The research has shown that the effects on policy-making largely differ based on the exposure to the crisis, the financial capacity of the State, its economic stability, social diversity, and local political environment. Although policies developed quite differently in response to the crisis, a general trend of rise in protectionist measures was experienced across the EU. On the other hand, the economic effects were generally negative in the short-run with high government expenditure, rise in unemployment, and exhaustion of public services. However, depending on the policy approach of the Member State, these effects have the potential to turn into positive long-run effects if necessary support for complete integration is provided. |
