Abstract:OTAs dominate the hotel market nowadays, making it very difficult for hotels to increase their direct bookings, which would be more beneficial for them. This thesis intends to find those marketing strategies and activities that small hotels in the Northeastern Balaton region use in order to increase their direct bookings and be more successful. With the use online available data and by making interviews with hotel owners in the selected area, patterns were investigated to find if there is a connection between hotel marketing and success in this region. The results showed that the better a hotel’s marketing is, the better it can perform in terms of direct bookings and other success indicators, such as REVPAR. Based on the findings, suggestions were formulated for hotels located in the Northeastern Balaton region on how they could improve their marketing.
