Kivonat:E-commerce is a worldwide phenomenon in the newly emerging digital economy, it is considered an essential tool in the development of business activities due to its high flexibility and efficiency, it offers to further productivity and cost reduction. Advanced countries as the United States of America focused on, during the last decade, employing it as a key factor in building its modern economy resulting directly in huge benefits for the economy. On the other hand, the less developed regions like the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA Region), noticed the benefits of e-commerce belatedly.  In Jordan for example, it is yet to be considered at its middle and initial stages, but a serious effort is being made now to build an information and communication technology infrastructure, modern legal environment, strong logistics network, as well as a secure electronic transaction network in order to build a more successful e-commerce model in Jordan. The purpose of this research is to explore the present position of e-commerce and analyse its development in order to determine the consequences on SMEs in Jordan. This research first begins with a review of the development of electronic commerce globally, and in different countries in the Middle East. It will define important factors behind the current level of e-commerce sector, by presenting the plans and the steps which were taken towards of creating a more online adapting environment in Jordan and the MENA region. This process was based on strategic analysis of the current situation of the Jordanian market based on the important factors for the application of e-commerce. The chosen case study of Maktoob Internet Group proposed strategies focused on updating the legal framework to create an attractive environment for investments and encourage optimal use of technology in the industrial sector to improve efficiency production and its effectiveness. Also, accelerating the process of implementing e-government and linked services. Key words: E-commerce, SMEs, E-commerce adoption, MENA region.
