Kivonat:In the financial crisis in 2009/2010, the EU played a major role in the rescue of Greece. Three austerity packages were put together, which were paid out to Greece in the following years. In total, about 278 billion € were managed to prevent a looming national debt of Greece (Rose 2021). But is perhaps the EU to blame at the debt of Greece Are there any benefits for Greece’s membership in the EU Germany paid a large share of the austerity package payments, amounting to €22 billion (Council on foreign relations 2018). This was only possible because Germany is one of the leading economic powers in Europe. But are there negative effects of the EU on Germany as a strong economic power and if so how do they affect Germany and its economy In general, it needs to be clarified whether the countries are developing and how much influence the EU has on this development. And what are the consequences of the EU on European and International Trade for their member nations This research paper addresses the comparison of two countries in the EU regarding their economic growth, the impact the EU has on society concerning their standard of living and furthermore previous stated questions are being answered including a forecast for both countries and their role in the EU.
