The high growth of exports makes Chinese steel manufacturing and its vulnerability to the trade policies of importing countries. As one of the major exporters of Chinese steel, the progression of China's steel industry is incredibly susceptible to alterations in U.S. trade policy. Since the financial crisis, the global economy has been weak, consumer demand has shrunk, and countries have had to strengthen trade protection for specific industries. Moreover, in the U.S.-China trade friction, the United States, to protect their steel industry and constantly for China's steel enterprises to implement anti-dumping and other trade protection measures, trade protectionism is increasingly apparent, to a certain extent, hit the Chinese steel industry. After reading relevant literature and studying the theoretical knowledge related to trading protectionism, this paper combines China's steel industry exports and the current trade protectionism implemented by the United States. This essay examines the causes of the United States trade protectionism towards China's steel sector from two angles. This essay focuses on how trade protectionism in the United States affects the export trade of the Chinese steel sector. Specifically, it investigates the consequences of trade protectionism on China's steel sector through the classic case of the '377 investigation' in Sino-US trade friction. The paper concludes with corresponding suggestions on how to deal with the problem of U.S. trade protectionism. On the one hand, the government should actively open up the export market, formulate countermeasures, improve industry management, establish a trade early warning mechanism, and guide enterprises to fight against unreasonable trade protectionism. On the other hand, enterprises should take the initiative to optimize the industrial structure and realize core technological innovation.
