| Abstract: | In my thesis I am going to walk around the details before and after Viacom and CBS merged on 4th of December 2019. I will introduce the companies and their history, background, scope of services and the goals with the merger. My personal goal with the thesis is to find answers for my research questions that are the following: “What is the impact of the merger on the combined financial statements and the performance ratios?” and “Was the merger beneficial to the performance of its shares and its key indicators?” To find answers, from a financial point of view, I will calculate and analyze the performance figures that are based on the companies’ financial statements in four categories; profitability ratios, liquidity ratios, solvency ratios and share performance ratios. I am going to evaluate their individual and combined results and with all this data I will conclude whether this deal was beneficial or not. With this thesis, my goal is to make a fundamental empirical analysis now when we have 2 years of prior and post-merger financial data at our hands excluding the year of the merger. This way I will be able to compare the figures in a 5-year period to see how separate companies performed in 2017 and 2018, how the merger affected the year when it happened in 2019 and how the combined company performed in 2020 and 2021. Lastly, I will briefly mention how the company is performing today as a closing thought. |
