| 520 | 3 | |a Entrepreneurship requires a set of competencies to set up and manage an enterprise. Although women possess these competencies as much as men, in the past, the opportunity to do this was reserved for men. The number of women participating in this economic activity is on the rise. Although their path is littered with extra obstacles, many manage to reach success. This paper investigates challenges that a group of successful American female entrepreneurs had to face and identifies the strategies and resources they were able to utilize to overcome them. It adopts the case study strategy and integrates an array of qualitative elements in its methodology. The data is presented in table format and illustrates that competencies are consistently present. The results also show that the challenges and strategies vary and some are more common than others. Additionally, there is indication of possible correlations between specific background variables and the occurrence of certain types of challenges and strategies, which could be of interest for researchers. Further investigations in this direction or using this study’s framework in other contexts or different sample groups may be conducted. | |
