The main objective of this analysis is to observe the factors leading to the improvement and what is needed to keep sustainable tourism development in the city. To achieve these objectives the research methods include field research with active participation, interviews with Medellin citizens from different backgrounds and points of view, an analysis of an International destination with post-conflict background to learn best practices, and secondary research which includes the analysis of gathered information from journals, books, articles, online interviews of relevant parties, among others.Vietnam was the destination chosen to analyze its post-conflict strategies. It is a post-conflict destination that has achieved sustainable tourism development with a deep emphasis on community involvement which can be applicable in Medellin to keep society engaged and involved in the tourism of the city and the region. This paper concludes that tourism can positively impact a post-conflict destination by helping the social, infrastructure, and economic development of the area and acting as a peacebuilding party in the process of recovering. At the same time, negative implications can also be observed. Dark tourism - drug trading & prostitution-, and the displacement of locals due to increasing housing prices caused mainly by tourism in some areas of the city, are some of the topics discussed in this paper. In order to keep the positive tourism numbers, development, and better reputation Medellin has today, local authorities must create policies according to the needs and trends of tourism stakeholders, giving special attention to locals, tourists, and the environment.
