Abstract: | This thesis is about youth tourism and summer camps, mainly in the United States but a small part is about Hungary. My two research questions were:What types of tourism does a sleep away summer camp offers in the United States? andWhat are the differences and similarities between a Hungarian sleep away summer camp and a U.S.summer camp?Youth tourism is a quickly growing tourism sector with about 336 million youthtravelers around the world. When thinking about youth tourism the majority of the peoplethink about youth between ages 15-29, this is the age when they are able to travel without aparent or a guardian. Usually, youth tourists stay longer at their destination, they supportlocal communities, usually they travel to experience a new culture and meet new people. There are a lot of programs supporting youth tourism, in Europe there is the DiscoverEuprogram that gives people who recently turned 18 free travel passes to use for 1-30 daysthroughout Europe on all of the trains. Another very useful program is the Erasmus and allof its variations and other forms of student exchange programs. When I was 17, I have spenthalf a year in Belgium as an exchange student studying the French language and I stayed witha very nice exchange family. |
