Abstract:K-pop, short for Korean pop, is characterized by its unique blend of electronic, hip hop, R&B, and pop music, as well as its emphasis on visually stunning music videos and intricate choreography. Thanks to its popularity, the Korean economy, culture and identity is widely boosted and promoted. Being interested in Korean culture in general and K-pop in particular, I was able to observe partly the development of Korean music industry. I clearly see that implemented steps helped grow K-pop towards the world can be a model for other countries to follow. Therefore, this thesisaims to explore the phenomenon of K-pop and the reasons for its global success, applying both primary and secondary research sources.The Korean Wave and K-pop origin will be shortly gone through. And the findings suggest that the success of K-pop is attributable to its unique combination of cultural elements, including its music, visuals, fashion, and dance, as well as its industry's strategic marketing efforts. Additionally, the thesis highlights the role of social media and the internet in the dissemination and consumption of K-pop. Moreover, the support from government which listed K-pop as a cultural strategy also played a crucial role. As country having huge impacts on Korean music industry, J-pop drew global attention as well but it gradually lost to K-pop. It is due to the different approachesbetween Japan and Korea towards the digitalized era that I will investigate further in my writing. Lastly, the study concludes by discussing the implications of K-pop's global success for the future of the music industry and cultural globalization.
