It is a multi-billion dollar global market that has been around for centuries, evolving with changing times and tastes. Fragrances are now ubiquitous in our daily lives, found in personal care products, household cleaners, and even food and beverages. Yet, despite the pervasiveness of fragrances, the process of creating them remains largely mysterious and enigmatic.This master's thesis aims to explore the intricate world of the fragrance industry, delving into its history, technology, and culture. By analyzing the fragrance industry's key players, processes, and trends, this thesis will provide a comprehensive understanding of the art and science of scent creation. The thesis will also examine the challenges that the fragrance industry faces in terms of sustainability and regulatory compliance. In this work, we will look at the fragrance industry's raw materials, including natural and synthetic ingredients, and their impact on the environment and human health. We will also explore the role of technology in fragrance creation and the development of new molecules in scent design. In addition, we will analyze the cultural and social dimensions of fragrance, investigating how scents are used to create emotional and psychological associations and how they reflect social and economic trends.Overall, this thesis will provide a deep and nuanced understanding of the fragrance industry, its complexities, and its impact on society. It will draw on a range of interdisciplinary sources, including economy, chemistry, biology, sociology, psychology, and marketing, to provide a comprehensive view of this fascinating and vital field.
