| Abstract: | This research sought to understand the overarching trends in financial innovation, in particular the current trends, their implications, and their perception from the consumers’ point of view. The researched focused on Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), which appears to be the next major step in financial innovation. In order to achieve a successful wide-scale implementation of CBDC, it is important to understand what aspects of a payment system are perceived to be particularly important by consumers. From the collected information, we could hypothesise what factors would propel or stunt the adoption of CDBC. |
