520 | 3 | |a In this study, I was conducting research regarding the effects of ChatGPT on university students’ lives. I chose this topic because it is a potent AI tool that is freely accessible and has huge publicity on the internet. I was looking to answer questions about whether university students use ChatGPT and, if so, what they use it for. I was writing about the capabilities of ChatGPT and, the possible problems they bring with them, and whether students are aware of these issues that the use of ChatGPT can cause them. I also looked at how universities can handle the situation of a freely accessible potent AI, their options to regulate its use, and whether they should regulate it at all. I also mentioned some use cases of how ChatGPT can be used in education by the professors. To answer these questions and delve into the topic, I conducted a literature review and created a questionnaire, which got 176 respondents. In the paper, I could answer all the questions I was aspiring to. Based on my research, I conclude that university students indeed use ChatGPT for various tasks, while they do not know all about the possible issues ChatGPT can cause. I found that most universities do not want to ban ChatGPT completely, but they stress the importance of using it responsibly. Everything I state in my paper is about ChatGPT while running on GPT 3.5; most findings would not stay viable on any other version of ChatGPT. Also, my questionnaire is not representative; every statement only applies to the sample I was looking at. | |
