| 520 | 3 | |a This study provides an in-depth look at two of the most significant global crises of the twenty-first century—the international economic and financial crisis of 2008-2009 and the crisis triggered by the corona virus in 2020. It examines their unique natures, impacts, and policy responses that have shaped the international economic and financial landscape. The goal is to help raise awareness and understanding of financial crises among relevant researchers, and to help policymakers and the public develop a more scientific and rational decision-making process to mitigate the negative economic and social impacts of crises. The 2008-2009 financial crisis was rooted in the U.S. housing market and subprime mortgages, while the crisis triggered by the corona virus in 2020 is essentially a crisis due to a public health and safety crisis. The first part of this paper compares and summarizes the background, causes, transmission mechanisms, policy responses, and global responses to the two financial crises through a literature review. The second part examines the background and formation process of the two financial crises and emphasizes the uniqueness of the nature of each of the two financial crises. The third part is an individual case study of JPMorgan Chase. The paper compares the similarities and differences in the impact of the two financial crises on JPMorgan Chase by analyzing its financial indicators and responses. The fourth part compares the similarities and differences in the macroeconomic impact of the two financial crises. It reveals the impact of the two financial crises on GDP, unemployment rate, inflation rate and central bank interest rate from a macroeconomic perspective with the United States as the background. It also analyzes the corresponding aid programs and policy reforms introduced by the World Bank and the International Fund, i.e., the international financial institutions and the government. The last part summarizes the lessons learned from the two financial crises. | |
