Potential impact of EU accession on the economy of Turkiye

| Kivonat: | EU accession has been one of the major political and economic issues for Turkiye in the last few decades. Even though various dialogues have been conducted, Turkiye couldn't join the union and this opportunity has decreased in recent years. However, the geographic location and economic standards of Turkiye might allow it to become a member in the upcoming future. This paper is aimed to understand how the economy will be impacted by such accession. To do so, current economic conditions and problems are analyzed, alongside detailing the EU-Turkiye relations within the past 20-25 years. The potential impacts of EU membership on the current economic problems are demonstrated with the support of Hungary and Croatia cases. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that EU accession will positively impact the economic and political situation of Turkiye. Still, this impact is only sustainable if Turkiye chooses to integrate with the European Union. |
