| Abstract: | The current geopolitical landscape is shaped by the power struggle between the United States and China. If China were to inherit the current world order, and it means to peacefully shape the international sphere it needs to be able to sanction states effectively. In this paper we are examining what role trade sanctions play in the relationship of these two countries. We analyse different scenario profiles which consist of different conflict situations as well as the potential sanction measures that can result from these conflicts. After calculating the economic impact of these measures, we draw conclusions about the geopolitical stance of the two nations as well as their allies and their options to tip the scales in their favour. |
