This paper examines Pakistan's continuous hedging conundrum, in which the nation must manage its military, political, and economic ties with both superpowers in the face of growing international rivalry. Through strategic alliances formed during the Cold War and the Soviet Afghan conflict, Pakistan has historically been able to maintain strong ties with both China and the United States. However, Pakistan's options for hedging have become more limited in the current geopolitical climate, which is characterized by programs like China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Pakistan's foreign policy decisions have become even more complex because of the US pulling out of Afghanistan and shifting its focus to compete with China. This paper emphasizes the geopolitical, economic, and strategic ramifications for South Asia by examining these processes and showing how Pakistan's existing strategy for preserving a strategic balance is becoming more difficult. The results provide information about how Pakistan's foreign policy is changing in response to the strains of resurgent great power competition as well as possible directions for its diplomatic approach going forward.
