Description
Abstract:This thesis is about the cultural centre’s operation under the current economic climate and how a culturally-centred town, especially Mohács can improve their revenue and popularity in the next three to five years with very little or without any government support. I also compare this institution with another one in Óbuda, Budapest to see, what are the difference between two geographically different cultural centres. The place that I plan on investigating is called Mohácsi Kossuth Filmszínház and the one I am going to compare with is Óbudai Kulturális Központ. In Hungary like in other countries cultural enterprises usually rely on governments help and support to be able to run. This support is really important for industries whose profitability may not be guaranteed or be as quick as other parties such as arts and heritage-related firms and theatres or cultural centres. However, government funding can be unpredictable due to growing financial limits and changing political objectives, forcing culturally focused firms to look for other routes to sustainability. There are many obstacles to overcome when operating without this help, but there are also opportunities for creativity and independence.
