| Kivonat: | In my thesis I researched the topic of voluntourism from many angles. First, I dealt with other niche tourism trends, like sustainable tourism and ecotourism. Then, I analysed its past and present, the positive and the negative consequences of these projects. I wanted to find out how sustainable it is by looking at the effect it has on nature, and the host communities. Next, I explored the topic of hosts and volunteers, their motivations, challenges, and responsibilities. I wanted to learn what a good volunteer experience looks like, and if it is worth it for both parties. I conducted 2 group and one in-depth interviews, asking my volunteer friends and my hosts, whom I met during my voluntourism journey. One of my group interviews was with civilians from different age groups to further explore the generational differences, and the non-volunteers’ opinion on the topic. |
