| Kivonat: | In this thesis, I investigate how geopolitical instability and sanctions starting from 2022 affected foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into Russia and neighboring countries. I analyze the historical background of FDI in Russia, explore key theories like Hymer's and Dunning's paradigms, and assess the country's position in global capital markets before and after the sanctions. Using official statistics and comparative analysis, I demonstrate that the 2022 sanctions caused a sharp decline in FDI inflows, led to structural changes in the investment climate, and increased Russia’s reliance on domestic capital. Despite the general decline, specific sectors like extractive industries remained attractive to investors. I also compare Russia’s situation with countries like Kazakhstan and China, providing a broader regional context. Through this research, I aim to highlight not only the immediate economic consequences but also the long-term prospects for Russia's investment climate in a changing geopolitical environment. |
