This structure enables fast pacing and deeper immersion, which traditional comic formats lack. The use of vertical space, also referred to as „infinite canvas”, allows creators to time dramatic reveals and action sequences effectively. It also empowers artists to experiment with panel arrangements and pacing, which has directly influenced the evolution of digital storytelling art forms. Webtoons have been an important aspect in making comic creation and consumption more available worldwide. Platforms like LINE Webtoon and Tapas provide tools that allowamateur creatorsto publish content directly. Thefreemium model, which provides free access to initial chapters and monetizes through ads or premium content, has significantly increased user retention and creator revenue. Webtoons’ success incross-cultural markets, including North America, Southeast Asia, and Europe, is credited to effective glocalization strategies, such as translations and culturally adapted marketing. The research proves that popular webtoons, like Lore Olympus, gained massive international followings, proving that digital platforms can launch globally successful IPs. Successful webtoon IPs are also being adapted intoK-dramas, series, animations, and games. Creators benefit from tools like data analytics, community feedback, and diverse monetization options that were previously unavailable in traditional comic publishing. Case studies and interviews included in this thesis highlight the valuable opportunities that webtoons have provided for artists. In summary, webtoons are not just a new format but a transformative genre in digital comics that reshapes storytelling, audience engagement, and global business models. They enable artists from around the world to share their stories, with some rising to international fame. Webtoons are redefining how comics are created, distributed, and monetized in the digital age.
