The research explores how these cities function as globally interconnected platforms that impact commerce, finance, innovation, and policymaking outside of their national settings, drawing on the idea of the global metropolis. The study looks at how each city uses its innovation environment and economic infrastructure to fortify international ties and promote cross-border collaboration. Tokyo has become a smart city by combining innovation and sustainability to solve environmental and demographic issues. China's state-led globalization initiatives, including the Free Trade Zone and the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, have made Shanghai a major financial hub. Seoul, on the other hand, uses technology-driven governance, urban branding, and innovation initiatives to enhance its reputation internationally. The approach is guided by a multidisciplinary literature review that integrates viewpoints from globalization, innovation economics, economic policy, and urban studies. Particular focus is placed on how smart governance, the Internet of Things, and information and communication technology (ICT) may help cities become powerful diplomatic and economic players. The results indicate that these cities have different political contexts, policy frameworks, and regional aspirations, even though they share strategic aims like being smart, sustainable, and internationally linked. By promoting global networks and advancing national foreign policy goals, all three show how cities may actively influence economic diplomacy. According to this idea, global cities are becoming more significant as diplomatic and economic hubs. They are vital middlemen in the changing terrain of global commercial connections because of their financial clout, inventiveness, and intelligent infrastructure. | |
