Description
Abstract:Besides the economic, infrastructural and energy aspects, which have put Serbia in the media spotlight, the role of Serbian cultural diplomacy is also crucial today, as it is a strategic tool in international relations. The country's European Union integration ambitions are an excellent practical example of how a country can use its own culture when talking about bilateral or multilateral relations. Indeed, through cultural diplomacy, Serbia can promote mutual understanding and strengthen relations with other nations, which is vital on the road to EU integration. In other words, through culture, different nationalities can be sensitised towards each other. Serbia's cultural strategy is proving effective when in contact with neighbouring countries, as exemplified by the Hungary. Serbia's historical relations with non-neighbouring countries show how cultural exchanges can strengthen these relations in political and economic terms. The importance of culture is also reflected in the transformation of Serbian identity in the global arena, which Serbia is actively pursuing after the Yugoslav era. Culture and cultural relations thus play a key role in thisprocess by presenting Serbian heritage and values which can positively influence international perceptions and help political discussions.
