Previous studies conducted around the world have shown that tourism based around yoga is about much more than just movement. It teaches mindfulness, how to calm the mind and manage the human emotions. Research at retreats has shown how much need is there to get away from the world or to relax or just to slow down. Promoting a philosophy of slow tourism and sustainability, these alternative tourism options have great potential to address the 21st century's epidemic of stress and anxiety and to raise awareness of wellbeing and mental health. This paper uses and draws on existing literature to provide a comprehensive picture of the importance and need for special themed trips. The research will also present a case study of its own: a yoga retreat in the Mátra Mountains, where the study examines the group of participants to demonstrate the openness and demand of the domestic market. The group surveyed showed great interest, proving that yoga and retreats have a place in Hungarian tourism, especially among women over 50. Their aim is to promote self-development, to find the balance between body and soul, and to acquire awareness, bringing society one step closer to the promotion of sustainable tourism.
