Kivonat: | Both source language texts of the present Translation Project comes from the field of judicial enforcement. The English text is a part of an EU Commission document. The comparative analysis examines the practice of service of documents in the Member States. This text is formal and neutral in tone and uses EU and legal terms and sentence structures. There are no unnecessary words and no implied meaning or ambiguity can be found in the report. The sender is referred to as ‘the team’ who worked on the project. The receiver of the text are the EU Commission, the Member States and the major decision-makers in the field of judicial enforcement. The communicative objective of the report and the selected part – Recommendations – is to improve the general system of the cross-border service of judicial and extrajudicial documents. The Hungarian text is an online HVG article which gives a detailed description of the Hungarian Personal Bankruptcy Act prior to its introduction in 2015. The article is characterized by a critical tone and informal addressor-addressee relationship with high level of second degree reciprocity. Since the receivers of the article – as opposed to that of the EU Commission report – are Hungarian citizens who might also have debts themselves, the article was written for a specific audience hence it is also highly culturally bound. In this text we can find realias and explication was more often needed than in the first translation. Before making these translations I got familiar with the context and similar texts. Since the legal language is a central element of the English SL text, I consulted texts on http://eur-lex.europa.eu. In the working environment of judicial enforcement I also took part in conferences and read Hungarian professional articles in this field. In both cases my attempt was to maintain the register of the texts and follow their cognitive structure. |
