Kivonat: | Mongolia is the world's second-largest cashmere producer, accounting for 40 percent of the global supply. Despite the successful containment of Covid-19 outbreak with zero local cases and fatalities reported as of October 2020, Mongolia could not avoid the global economic shock caused by the pandemic and associated mitigation measures which disrupted global supply chains, commodity market, trade, tourism, cashmere industry etc. The purpose of this thesis is to obtain insightful analyzes of the current cashmere market impacted by Covid-19 in Mongolia and to emphasize the need for further development plans of the cashmere sector through methods of comparative analysis, SWOT analysis, a case study on one of the major cashmere manufacturers in the world, in-depth interviews for the primary data on how the pandemic is affecting in local household level for practicality. The result from this study is that pandemic and associated mitigation measures caused the global cashmere demand to decline and numerous pitfalls across the supply chain led to a steep drop in cashmere price which deeply affected the livelihoods of Mongolian herders. The potential impacts in a business vary from direct impacts such as drop in sales and profitability to longer-term impacts such as a change in a business model.
