Kivonat:This year I participated in a double degree Erasmus program between the University of Oviedo and Budapest Business School. Within this program’s framework I developed a 11-month-stay in Gijón (Spain) as the last year of my university studies. This period and also my orientation towards commerce led me to choose this topic. I am really interested how large retail chains work and what are their strategies to gain customers. The competition is very severe nowadays in the commerce sector and international companies are coming up with new ideas, technologies and solutions to make shopping an enjoyable experience for customers. Also, consumers are becoming more and more conscious and they are looking for the best offers by comparing the prices, assortment and services of the stores. In this dissertation I would like to include my own experiences and opinion and also to rely on relevant books, on Internet sources and on the information I obtained from the Hungarian contact persons of Lidl and Auchan. I managed to contact MónikaVidó, the import and controlling manager of Auchan Hungary; TamásNeuheiser who work in the food-action department of Lidl; and HajnalkaVarga who has more than 10 years of experience in purchasing of discount stores.
