| Kivonat: | There are hundreds of castles in Hungary, and the number of protected castles according to the National Bureau for Monument Protection is 718. From this around 90 serve the needs of tourists in several different ways (egriugyek.hu, 2019). This thesis investigates the role of castles in the tourism industry, their popularity and possible ways to increase their visitor numbers. The main focus is on domestic tourists’ attitude towards Hungarian castles. The thesis contains primary and secondary research, literature review, statistical data analysis and a case study on Helikon Castle. The primary research consists of two questionnaires one for the public and one for the Helikon Castle, which was listed as Hungary’s most popular palace by the respondents. The research provided insight into the current state of castles, helped identify the problems and made it possible to come up with the best solutions, suggestions. |
