Kivonat:This paper investigates the representation of immigration through the lenses of the Arabic, British, American and Hungarian news. The research is focused on the dominant image of immigration in different news channels as well as on analyses/editorials presenting personalised narratives and humanitarian frames of immigration. The aim of the study is to demonstrate how immigration becomes an important factor of political propaganda especially through connecting the issues of border security and refugees. The main research question is: Does the mainstream Arabic, British, and Hungarian news channels influence the perception of the audience and thus manipulate their behaviour? I. e., are there different patterns of perception related to the framing of the news broadcasted? The first part of the paper discusses the media’s coverage of immigration focusing on its main shifts and changes during the last years. The second part of the study intends to demonstrate in what way the Arabic, British, American, and Hungarian news channels differ in their framing and treatment of the matter of immigration as well as how the coverage of immigration differs in tone and source attribution. Methodologically, the analysis of each news channel and examination of the narratives is based on data collection and “close reading” of the news content. The conclusion is going to provide an answer for my research question additionally proposing a wider understanding and rising awareness about how the news manipulates people, making them see things from one perspective which causes them to act and think similarly- or, in other words, it controls their actions and beliefs.
