| Kivonat: | Infrastructure in urban regions is an important facilitator of sustained economic growth and sustainability. In the context of global cities, the extent of infrastructure development influences their economic growth, level of foreign direct investment, and extent of integration into the global economy.This thesis examined the role of the urban infrastructure of Shanghai in boosting global trade connectivity. The research adopted the interview method to collect data. Eight interviewees, drawn from across different sectors in Shanghai, were selected. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results show that the presence of ports, docks, industrial parks, high-speed rail, and roads are major antecedents of a city's economic growth. In addition, these infrastructure projects promote connectivity and efficiency in cargo handling, thereby boosting the city's international trade prospects. Lastly, global cities are responding to global economic trends through an emphasis on financialization, digitalization, modern skyscrapers, and sustainability. |
