Abstract: | Tourism is a double-edged sword, bringing economic benefits but also overtourism, where visitor numbers exceed a destination's capacity, harming infrastructure, the environment, and local communities (Goodwin, 2017). Fenghuang Ancient Town in China's Hunan Province exemplifies this issue. Renowned for its Miao and Tujia culture and Qing-Ming architecture, it became a key tourist spot, earning national titles and heritage recognition. Tourist numbers surged from 576,000 in 2001 to 20.11 million in 2019 (Yuan, 2023). While boosting the economy, overcrowding has strained the environment and commercialized local culture. |
