| Abstract: | This thesis examines the impact of financialization on economic growth, deindustrialization, and income inequality in the US and EU from 2013 to 2023. Using mixed methods panel regression for the EU and time series for the US it finds that financialization negatively affects growth and industrial output, especially in the US, and exacerbates income inequality. The study highlights institutional differences, the role of shareholder value, and explores future trajectories, including definancialization and the challenges posed by climate risk and digitalization. |
