| Abstract: | The Global population aging. This"silver tsunami" presents profound economic challenges, straining the twin pillars ofsocial security, pension systems, and healthcare provision. This thesis investigates theconsequences of this interplay, focusing on the experiences of hyper-aged Japan,mature welfare state Germany, and rapidly aging South Korea. Key findings reveal distinct national trajectories: Japan's reliance onprivate pensions faces design limitations, Germany's incremental adjustments to its dominantPAYG system amidst political constraints, and South Korea's urgent sustainability crisiscompounded by high elderly poverty and ultra-low fertility. The analysis underscores the criticalfiscal, labor market, and growth impacts stemming from the pension-healthcare nexus. This research argues that isolated reforms are insufficient. It concludes by advocating for integrated,context-specific policy solutions encompassing pension design, healthcare efficiency,healthy aging promotion, labor market adaptation, and intergenerational fairness to successfully navigate the economic transformations of an aging world. |
