The thesis investigates how each country has utilised FDI to foster innovation and technological advancement by analysing the regulatory environments, institutional frameworks, investment policies and incentives. The thesis calls attention to significant disparities between the two nations in their approach and ability to leverage FDI for technology transfer. China on the one hand has a strategic approach towards attracting foreign investments, specifically in the technology industry, that strengthened its position in high-tech sectors like AI. The success is a consequence of robust institutional changes and a comprehensive package of incentives encouraging local knowledge transfer. In contrast, the Argentinian example demonstrates how the absence of critical institutional framework and incentives poses great challenges in technology advancement. The comparative analysis illustrates that the FDI alone is insufficient for technology transfer; it should be backed by a comprehensive policy system that ensures the absorptive capacity of the domestic actors. The study provides valuable insights into the importance of strategic frameworks and policy formulation in reaping the benefits of FDI. | |
